Dr. Gaughan will be serving as the economic expert witness in a moot court presentation. He will then be speaking the next day on the cross examination of the plaintiff's economist. Among the topics that Dr. Gaughan will be discussing are the various ways that some plaintiff's economists may exaggerate economic damages in personal injury cases.

    This seminar reviews the proper methods that should be used to value commercial damages. The program is usually presented by the in-house staff of Economatrix Research Associates, Inc., including Dr. Patrick Gaughan and Professor Henry Fuentes. Dr. Gaughan outlines the proper methods of measuring damages while Professor Fuentes covers the relevant accounting issues that are important to commercial damages analysis. The program utilizes as a text, Dr. Gaughan's book, Measuring Commercial Damages (John Wiley & Sons, 1999).
  • Measuring Damages in Personal Injury Litigation
    This seminar reviews the proper methods that should be used to value economic damages in personal injury litigation. It covers the proper methodology in the field and also reviews how such damages may be presented in court. In addition, the seminar covers how such damages are sometimes exaggerated or inaccurately presented by some experts.

    These litigation related seminars are offered independently by Economatrix Research Associates, Inc. or in conjunction with continuing legal education organizations. In the latter format, various experienced litigators serve on the panel and discuss issues such as the relevant case law as well as courtroom strategies.

Dr. Gaughan offers several comprehensive seminars on the field of mergers and acquisitions. These seminars may enable corporate clients to benefit from Dr. Gaughan's knowledge and experience in this field. Dr. Gaughan has taught mergers and acquisitions at the graduate level for over 10 years. He also has authored two of the three textbooks that exist in this field.     This program reviews the current state of the world of mergers and acquisitions. This includes recent trends in both the domestic and international market for mergers and acquisitions. These trends include merger strategy and financing as well as corporate restructuring.
  • Merger Strategy
    This program reviews the main merger strategies and how firms may benefit from pursuing them. The program also highlights the potential pitfalls that may be inherent in certain strategies so that clients can be forewarned and take sufficient steps to minimize potential losses.
  • Reasons Why Some Mergers Succeed and Others Fail
    Drawing upon the firm's research in this area this program reviews the main factors which may cause some mergers to fail. These include pursuing faulty merger strategies, inadequate due diligence, poor post-merger integration and many others. In the program these factors are initially explored but are also presented using a case study approach in which prominent examples of such failures are used. In addition, the reasons why some mergers have succeeded are also highlighted so that attendees can benefit from what some companies did right while trying to avoid the merger pitfalls.
